Expense Tracker ("the App") is developed and operated by Naveen Vuppula. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

Account Information

• Email address — used as your account identifier for login and password recovery
• Name — used to personalize your experience within the app
• Profile picture (optional) — uploaded by you to personalize your profile

Financial Data You Enter

• Expense records — amounts, descriptions, dates, and categories you create
• Budget settings — monthly budget amounts per category
• Categories — custom categories you create or modify
• Receipt images — photos you scan for automatic expense entry (processed by Google Cloud Vision API for text extraction, not stored permanently)

Automatically Collected

• Device locale/region — to auto-detect your preferred currency
• Authentication tokens — to keep you securely logged in

🔧 How We Use Your Information

• Provide the service — store and display your expenses, budgets, and analytics
• Authentication — verify your identity and secure your account
• Receipt scanning — extract text from receipt photos to auto-fill expense details
• Currency detection — display amounts in your local currency
• Data export — generate CSV files of your expense data when you request it

🔐 Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Amazon Web Services (AWS):

• Authentication — managed by AWS Cognito with industry-standard encryption
• Expense data — stored in AWS DynamoDB with encryption at rest
• Profile pictures — stored in AWS S3 with server-side encryption
• All data transmission — encrypted via HTTPS/TLS

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

🤝 Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud infrastructure, authentication (Cognito), database (DynamoDB), and file storage (S3)
• Google Cloud Vision API — processes receipt images for text extraction (images are sent to Google's servers for processing but are not stored by Google)
• Google Sign-In — optional authentication method
• Apple Sign-In — optional authentication method

Each third-party service operates under their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their respective policies.

🌍 Data Sharing

Your data may only be disclosed:

• To comply with legal obligations or valid legal processes
• To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (you would be notified)

🎛️ Your Rights & Choices

• Access your data — view all your expenses, categories, and budgets within the app at any time
• Export your data — download your expense data as a CSV file from the app
• Update your data — edit or delete any expense, category, or budget within the app
• Delete your account — permanently delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Settings → Delete Account)
• Change authentication — manage your sign-in method through the app

👶 Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete such information.

📝 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
